A level Biology Students Hear from Top Scientists
On Thursday 7th December, 22 A level Biology students attended A level Biology Live. This gave the students the opportunity to hear top scientists speak about their areas of interest.
Speakers included Prof. Steve Jones (who provided updated reflections on Darwin’s theory of natural selection), Dr. Ben Goldacre (who explained how scientific evidence may be manipulated) and Dr. Jenny Rohn (who described the huge problematic increase in antibiotic resistance of bacteria and encouraged the young biologists in the room to rise to the challenge).
“Attending A level Biology Live was really interesting as we heard talks from a lot of different scientists. One of the talks was about antibiotic resistance, which I found to be really interesting as it concerns everyone.” Ushna, Year 12
“I found A level Biology Live very interesting and informative. There were a number of scientists at the event who gave very engaging presentations. My favourite was the presentation on bacteria and their resistance to antibiotics. I found the examiner tips very useful. Overall, I think it was definitely worth it, as I learnt a lot.” Aqsa, Year 12
“I was able to go to A level Biology and listened to many informative talks. The one that particularly engaged me was the talk about the brain. There were so many things I learnt that I never thought the brain could do. However, all the talks were just as thought-provoking as the others and I really enjoyed the day”. Sneha, Year 12
We hope the students feel inspired to research more about the topics discussed in the talks.
