Students had three sessions throughout the day. The first session allowed students to learn about baking and the preparation and processes involved in baking. They then had the opportunity to bake their own vegan cookies. The second session saw students learning about packaging design, and they had the chance to create and design their own cookie box. The third session was focused on food science, where students learnt about food and nutrition and conducted science experiments to explore what a ‘calorie’ is and the amount of calories a cookie contains.
As you can see from the image below, it was both an enriching and fun-filled day for the Y9s, with them being able to take their own made cookies home in their own cookie box.
“I enjoyed the sessions, especially the baking as it was very different from what we normally do. It was fun as well for us to have the chance to work together as team whilst building us to be independent” – Hafsah Bin Javaad
